Big Name Returns At SmackDown
At this week’s WWE SmackDown tapings, former WWE RAW General Manager John Laurinaitis made his return in the opening segment featuringThe Rock. The show was taped Tuesday night in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
During the TV taping, Laurinaitis came out and told The Rock the both of them were “two peas in a pod”. He said The Rock was the People’s Champion, and Big Johnny started People Power. He offered to be in The Rock’s corner at WrestleMania. Rock polled the crowd for what he should do and no chants obviously ensued. The Rock hit a spinebuster and the People’s Elbow to a monster pop.
As of now, there are no plans for Laurinaitis to return full-time. The segment was done so “The People’s Champion” could hit the “People’s Elbow” on the man behind “People Power”. That’s WWE’s logic for you.
Extreme Rising Cancels WrestleMania Weekend Events
Extreme Rising officials have begun contacting talent to inform them that the promotion’s WrestleMania weekend shows in Philadelphia and Staten Island, New York have been canceled. The reason being given is low ticket sales. That seems odd as all other indy promotions running duringWrestleMania weekend have had great tickets sales for obvious reasons. Something seems “fishy” here.
According to sources, there was reportedly some worry about whether the shows would go forward as of last week but Shane Douglas was determined to have them go on since his name was attached and he felt like he would take the hit if they were cancelled.
The decision to cancel the shows was made Tuesday night after ticket sales apprently didn’t improve. The word going around is that this doesn’t mean the end of the promotion. There is also no word on how fans who already purchased tickets will be able to get their money back as of this writing.
Ric Flair’s Agent Issues A Statement On His Health
Ric Flair’s agent, Melinda Morris Zanoni of Legacy Talent and Entertainment, sent out the following statement regarding Ric Flair’s current health.
“Ric is doing well, he feels great, and is home. WWE’s medical staff performed a physical on Ric yesterday, like they do all of their athletes, and recommended that he have a doctor take a closer look at his swollen leg. Upon arriving back in Charlotte today he went to see his doctors and it was determined that there is a blood clot. He was not admitted to the hospital, rather released with medication, which the doctors are confident will work quickly causing Ric to completely heal soon. Ric appreciates everyone’s concern and is looking forward to seeing fans at his next scheduled appearance in Hagerstown, MD on Friday and performing for WWE very soon.”
Randy Orton’s Heel Turn
there is talk of turning Randy Orton heel and that may happen at WrestleMania. The idea would be that they’d build up Sheamus and Orton “trusting” The Big Show only to have Orton turn during the match and hit an RKO on either Sheamus or The Big Show. It all depends on who they want him to feud with followingWrestleMania.
